Participants will do an under painting of a photo of their choice in either raw umber or burnt sienna acrylic paint and gesso. I will demonstrate planning composition, contrasts and values in the under painting. Then participants will do their under painting using at least five values of acrylic on canvas with a gesso brush or other 1 1/2”-2” brush. After lunch break we will paint over underpainting with color adding contrasts and detail.

Participant supply list: paints, brushes, substrates usually used plus 2” gesso brush, easel, towels, photos, table covering and whatever else you need to paint.

Materials provided by presenter: I will have raw umber and burnt sienna acrylic and gesso for those who use oils. Photo in color and black & white that can be used as well. Hand outs: composition, color, contrasts.
