2025 Art Show Judge
Nathan Wilson – Fine Art Instructor – Nicolet College, Rhinelander, WI
Bio
Nate Wilson lives with his family in the woods of northern Wisconsin and is nearly always
making pictures or sculptures. At Nicolet College he is the Fine Art Instructor, teaching classes
in things like drawing, painting, sculpture, and watercolor. He also leads an art history focused
study abroad trip to London for the college. Nate studied at Laguna College of Art and Design
in California where he earned a master’s degree in Painting. Specializing in representational
and figurative work, he paints, draws, and sculpts lots of people, but his art includes a lot of
trees, animals, and other stuff too.
Artist Statement
I like the art to be engaging, a bit whimsical sometimes, and to provide people with a moment of
wonder. Still, heavier themes always seem to emerge out of the work, often evoking the great
irresolvable struggles that are part of the human condition. Like the way people thrive in nature
and destroy it in the process. How technological progress enhances our lives and at the same
time ruins the experience of living. These dilemmas won’t be resolved through making pictures
and sculptures, but I will persist in creating them anyway.
