Executive Board
President
Jean Bettenhausen
I’m really looking forward to being your next president. The board and I will work together as a team to brainstorm ideas and form committees that work. I know many of you want to help and I welcome all new ideas, expertise, and concerns.
I have experience as a freelance graphic designer and print production manager, during which I worked closely with printers, editors, outside designers, typesetters and writers. I really enjoy working collaboratively with others and look forward to doing so with the art league.
I’ve been a member of the Manito Art League for around 10 years and have served as secretary, workshop head, and currently as co-leader of the scholarship committee with Emily Bokern. I have completed many jobs for the art show and have enjoyed my time with the plein air group.
Thanks for giving me this opportunity to lead the MAL into the future.
Vice President
Paul Pyrcik
Paul Pyrcik joined MAL in 2023. He has served as interim vice-president and also chaired our Art Show’s silent auction committee for the past two years. His primary medium is wood. He has been a woodturner for nearly 30 years, producing a range of artistic and practical turned pieces.
Prior to retiring, Paul spent 40 years in key finance, communications, and resource development leadership positions within the environmental services, healthcare, and education sectors.
His community involvement includes decades of volunteer board service and leadership for several highly regarded nonprofit social service agencies. He maintains active membership in the Chicago Woodturners and Windy City Woodturners chapters of the AAW.
A native of Chicago, Paul currently splits his time between Lisle, IL and Lac du Flambeau, WI where he continues to learn, teach, demonstrate, and make wood art.
Secretary
Kim Wanink
This is my second year on the Manito Art League. It is a wonderful bunch of talented people. I am especially enjoying the plein air experiences! I retired as a nursing instructor after 40 years of nursing including consulting, management, and organizational structure. I still miss the nursing and patients but am in a new phase of life with retirement. Beadwork, lapidary, punch needle, and watercolor painting. I also decided retirement was a good time to learn the violin. I live in Wakefield, just across the Michigan border and close to Lake Superior where I get so much inspiration.
Treasurer
Kat Nordby
Kat brings over two decades of experience in software development, database design, and financial reporting to her new role as Treasurer of the Manito Art League. Her background in accounting systems and collaborative project management supports her goal of streamlining operations into a unified, accessible platform. A Northwoods native returning home, Kat now lives across from Lost Lake, where her studio “Kats Kreations” showcases symbolic acrylic and metal artworks, handmade gifts, and natural dog products.
