Workshop: Watercolor Portrait in Lampblack

Description:
Lampblack is a type of carbon black pigment derived from the soot of burning oil or other flammable substances. Lampblack has been used in art and writing for millennia, dating back to ancient Egypt and China. It is known for its intense deep black color, its permanence, lightfastness, and compatibility with other pigments. It also has a distinctive blue undertone that can create cool gray shades when mixed with other pigments, according to Winsor & Newton.
In this workshop, participants will be taken step by step through the process of creating a lampblack portrait.
