Workshop: Exploring Cyanotypes: The Basics for Artistic Applications

June 4 @ 10:30 am - 3:00 pm
$10.00 – $20.00

Description:

Cyanotype is a historic UV-light printing process yielding unique cyan-blue images. You can print with objects or digital negatives on diverse substrates like paper, fabric, canvas, wood, pottery, and glass.

Cyanotype can become a dynamic part of your creative practice. In this hands-on workshop you will discover:

  • Fundamentals: The history and science of cyanotypes.
  • The Method: How to coat, expose, and develop prints on various materials.
  • Advanced Creativity: It’s not all about “the blues” either! We’ll discuss introducing color through toning, and techniques used including wet cyanotypes, painting, and more.

You will leave inspired to start using the cyanotype process in your creative activities too.

Presenter:  Libby Scott

Starting as a horn performance major, my career path took me through business (managing regions of stockbrokers) before I dedicated myself to arts management. I’ve created and managed impactful arts nonprofits, including restoring music education to schools in North San Diego County. I have served on many arts boards and managed numerous concert series in San Diego and DC. I also founded and managed the Old Schoolhouse Gallery, a gallery and museum dedicated to historic preservation in Star Lake, WI. A Photographer for over 20 years, I’ve received numerous awards for my work and have shown my work at several Northwoods galleries. Currently, I lead both the Northwoods Photo Club and a new club at UCSD, while also focusing on historic photographic processes on my own artwork.

Materials to be provided by presenter:  Cyanotype chemistry, acrylic sheets, clips, prepped watercolor paper, plant samples, toner, extra supplies to play with.

Materials to be brought by participant: Your creativity! It would be great if some participants could bring water color paints and brushes to experiment with.  Pack your own lunch for a lunch break.

Workshop Fee:  $10 for Members, $20 for Non-Members

Materials Fee: $12.50. Participant buys materials directly from presenter at the workshop
