Workshop: Creating Paper Beads: The Artful Transformation of Humble Papers

Paper bead making has deep African roots and is both creative and meditative. Mary will demonstrate how to use a paper-rolling tool to craft unique beads from ordinary paper. You can spend the session making beads or learn to turn them into bracelets, bookmarks, or keychains.

Mary is the former Program Director for VSA Arts, Madison, and retired as Executive Director of Olio Arts + Music Center, Wisconsin Rapids. She continues to volunteer and teach visual arts, with a particular interest in whimsical ceramics.
Materials to be provided by presenter: Rolling tools, small brushes, Mod Podge glue sealer, wax paper, paper towels, and wet wipes, Items to incorporate into your designs: extra miscellaneous paper to cut, elastic and other string materials, glass and plastic beads
Materials to be provided by participant:magazine pages, maps, sheet music, painted papers, old drawings, grocery fliers, scrapbook paper etc. Papers flexible enough to roll. NO card stock.
Workshop Fee: $10 for Members, $20 for Non-Members.
